Run With Me 1.3
This run was BRUTAL! It began on the Manhattan side of the George Washington Bridge, and into the NJ Palisades. I still don’t know what I was thinking running 12 miles (up from 10), with all those hills and in that heat. However, I do know that having bad days only makes the good days feel better.
This day was particularly bad because I hadn’t run in a week from being sick, and then I neglected to do yoga to appease the tendinitis that is trying to come back and haunt me. I developed Iliotibial Band Syndrome in college when I thought it would be *fun* to join the cross country team. While I was in shape, I wasn’t conditioned to run as much as we were, and because of a low arch, and weak quad and hamstring muscles, I developed ITBS. I went to physical therapy, and left the team, only to have not really run again until now. I was dreading it coming back, but so far doing yoga the night before I run, or even right before as a warm up is really helping.
Being held back by something like ITBS is extremely frustrating, and to a point makes me doubt that I’ll be able to get through the marathon. But if I do what I should to avoid having problems, which is actually a much larger commitment than just running a few days a week, I should be golden.
