Most of my running has been about just that, running. I’m so new to it that I don’t want to overwhelm myself with the pressure of the race. I’ve focused more on just learning how to run properly without getting injured, and learning to eat, sleep, and behave for running.
I think I’ve finally achieved that, and in 10 days I will be running my first marathon, but not for time, just for fun. That being said, the next thing on my to-do list is improving my time, and I think the 5K is a great place to start.
I’ve mentioned this before, but one of my coaches writes for About.com’s running and jogging section, and she’s outlined an eight-week training plan for gaining a little speed on your 5Ks.
The thought of running a “race” makes me a little sick to my stomach, but after running several races, and not actually racing, I’ve gotten to the point where I feel comfortable walking up to the corral. Now, if I tweak my training to make my average running time a little faster, I can run with the same confidence, not necessarily racing it, but overall running a bit faster.
